YODOKABE × HiKESHi SPiRiT: "Yodokabe Hikeshi" — Artists Reinventing the Hanten

"Yodokabe Hikeshi" is a collaborative project between HiKESHi SPiRiT (火消魂) and participating artists from YODOKABE, a collective art initiative. The project reimagines the hanten (半纏) — the traditional padded jacket worn by Edo-era firefighters — as a canvas for contemporary art, deconstructing and reconstructing the garment through each artist's unique vision.

By fusing traditional Japanese craftsmanship with diverse artistic perspectives, Yodokabe Hikeshi challenges the boundaries between fashion, art, and cultural heritage — positioning the hanten not just as clothing, but as wearable art rooted in 400 years of Japanese firefighting tradition.
