“Yodokabe HiKESHi”: A project by Yodokabe participating artists and HiKESHi SPiRiT to reinterpret the ‘Hanten’ A T-shirt designed and redefined by ESSU (@essu_suisugi) in accordance with the traditions of the “Hanten.”
ESSU’s iconic motif is featured as a patch on the front, while a large family crest is printed on the back.

The theme is “The Splendor of Edo.”
In designing this hanten, I focused on the “hanten of that era”—those actually used during the Edo period, which were simple, practical, and possessed a stylized aesthetic. I wanted to express, even if only a little, the aesthetic of “iki”—the refined elegance of the people of Edo who found joy within that minimalist design and style.
So, while the outer fabric is simply rendered in a classic, deep indigo dye, the lining features a startlingly flashy design teeming with supernatural creatures that will take your breath away.
