心願成就火消祭之図
Fulfilled Prayers: Hikeshi Festival
“We hope things go back to normal as soon as possible.”
The “Hikeshi Festival” was painted with this devout wish.
Many people gather at the festival, and the geishas attract the eyes of the people in town.
The Hikeshis exclaim that they are the best.
Thinking back to such lively days,
This Ukiyo-e triptych is based on the theme of “Hikeshi.”
The artwork is by an artistic duo, “Dalma Shōten.”

“Triptych”
Although “Fulfilled Prayers: Hikeshi Festival” is one artwork, it’s divided into three pieces on the back of the T-shirt.
There is a reason for that; we took in the triptych method from ukiyo-e paintings.
Why did ukiyo-e artists separate their artworks into three pieces?
It is thought that ukiyo-e were considered as publications unlike as works of art these days.
To print as publications, it was convenient to adjust to the ōban large format.
The triptych was made up from that format laid side by side.

“Kakuji”
Were you able to read these square-like letters?
That’s correct!
The answer is “達磨火消 (daruma hikeshi).”
This is proof of Dalma Shōten and HiKESHi SPiRiT’s collaborative work.
The letters are called “Kakuji,” usually used for the lower back part of the hantens.
They’re commonly used for our designs.
You can see these important parts of designs on our T-shirts and hantens.

“The Logo”
An adorable logo is placed on the front side of a T-shirt.
Dalma Shōten’s daruma logo looks like an owl.
HiKESHi SPiRiT’s masu(a square wooden box) shaped logo is actually a pun.
Hikeshi and masu = hi keshi masu.
This means “we put out the fire” Japanese.
A tool between logos is called “Tobiguchi.”
Hikeshis back in the day destroyed the buildings with these. (haha)
